Featuring The Rise of Rishi: Britain's Richest Prime Minister
25th October 2022
The UK's 3rd Prime Minister in 2022, Sunak is a relatively new figure on the political scene, emerging back in 2020 when he was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer by Boris Johnson. In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was popular by the standards of British politics, described by one analyst as having "better ratings than any politician since the heydays of Tony Blair", his recognition accumulating in 2022 when he participated in the Tory Leadership Race against Liz Truss. Although losing out for the role of PM originally, the following terrible 6 weeks of governance by Truss and her cabinet meant that after 49 days, Sunak was finally given the keys to No. 10. Described as the "British Establishment's version of progress", today we're taking a look at Rishi Sunak's rise to power.

12th October 2022
Since the 17th century, coffeehouses have been central to British cafe culture, depositing political importance due to their popularity as places of debate. Known as "penny universities", the crowds that they attracted were synonymous of scholars and students alike, and anyone with a penny could enter and sit in on a lecture or have access to books or print news. Coffeehouses boosted the popularity of print news culture and helped the growth of various financial markets including insurance, stocks, and auctions, as they became arenas for culture and politics.

25th October 2018
Onima is a unique hybrid of bar, restaurant, private dining lounge and rooftop terrace, and is the brainchild of founder Alexandros Andrianopoulos, who set out to capture the atmosphere and reputation of Mykonos, a Greek island which has fast become one of the world's most sought-after destinations. Andrianopoulos has managed legends such as Nammos and Interni, building success internationally for NYC’s Bathtub Gin and Bagatelle in Dubai, and his newest venture, Onima, is set to be the ultimate luxury lifestyle experience to captivate Londoners. Onima's five-floor residence was once the headquarters of Cartier's watchmaking empire, and has been skilfully re-imagined by leading Greek interior designers Archset to become a sensory experience from start to finish. The first level of the Onima experience, the ground floor restaurant, is dominated by a huge bar covered in rich bronze details, and the whole room oozes style and sophistication, flooded with natural light.

Featuring Film maker Therese Shechter: “Being child free could be...
11th October 2017
The film, My So-Called Selfish Life, is funded via a Kickstarter campaign, (Shechter’s third crowdfunded film project), which closes next week. The film will show how choosing to be child free in today’s society is not an easy option, and something which can be met with strong reactions from the surrounding community. Film maker, writer and speaker Therese told her mother already in high school that she wasn’t going to have children, and that if her parents wanted grandchildren they would have to look at her sister. While always knowing she didn’t want children, Therese kind of assumed she would have them anyway. “That had a lot to do with my ideas of what women did. I just assumed I would have a partner who wanted kids, and my friends would have kids and I would kind of have to go along with that,” she says.

Featuring A different kind of escape in the Loire Valley
14th October 2015
An estate spanning 1400 acres takes you back in time to a place of complete serenity, nature and purity – even pictures don’t do justice to the beauty of Les Bordes. Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, the estate is made up of the 20th-century Château Bel Air featuring eight suites, a restaurant in a glass orangery and a cigar, whisky and wine bar. In addition to a cosy clubhouse, there is a spa and wellness centre under the canopy of trees, accompanied by swimming pools, tennis courts and a gym. Need more convincing? How about lighting up a fine cigar while sipping on some rare whisky complemented by a delectable meal in the Club du Baron? According to Les Bordes, ‘It’s the feeling of homecoming as you sink into an armchair beside grand, leaping fires. The way the outside world fades away – and all that matters are the people around your table.’ But if you would rather take refuge in a good book or a play a game, the clubhouse has a library and games room.

Featuring Rio: The city with art and Jazz at heart
6th October 2015
Today, its international profile is rising with the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics games, and it’s not just sports fans who have their eye on this vibrant city. Art exhibitions put on here are among the world's most-attended, while both Rio and Sao Paolo have art fairs and talent strong enough to rival any emerging cultural hotspot. Last year, Brazillian artist Beatriz Milhazes' set a new record for Brazilian art, selling a piece for $2.1 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York. A host of new international galleries single the city out as the must-see destination for any global art connoisseur: Emmanuel Hervé (Paris), Société (Berlin) and Thomas Brambilla (Milan,) are some who have made Rio their next home. A perfect time to experience this vibrant city can begin with ArtRio, Rio’s first contemporary international art fair launched in 2010. Every September, a week is packed with stimulating events and private dinners; those looking for a truly exclusive experience may want to brush shoulders with the most exciting creative minds and the glitterati of the city at the black-tie gala ball held at MAR, one of the city’s leading contemporary art museums.
