Review of Penhaligon’s Perfumes – a regal treasure trove of scents
24th July 2018
Taking your breath away, captivating and divine, Penhaligon's perfume selections are treasure troves of gorgeous potions in delectable vintage-esque bottles boxed up in their own individual intricate parcels of aesthetic curiosity. Some might call them old-fashioned and it is true, they do boast an apparent antique look and feel about them. But they are beautiful things nonetheless, and beautiful things come with style and grace like their Elisabethan Rose – mildly sweet, feminine and delicate. Though the bottle may be old fashioned, the scent is not. If there is such a thing as a modernized rose scent, then this regal fragrance could be it. It is alluring and not for every women, but for that particular woman who wants a “commanding presence”. On its head notes are, hazelnut leaf, almond oil and cinnamon with heart notes of red lily and rose finishing off with base notes of vetivert, musk and wood. Then there is something even more intriguing and one we much prefer – Empress – a scent of savviness, panache and absolute posh.

The art to starting your jewellery collection
15th July 2017
We spoke to Gråsilver - a bold and modern Scandinavian inspired collector at the annual Arts & Antique Fair at the world famous Olympia Exhibition Centre in London, to get their insight into starting off your very own jewellery collection. The main piece of advice we were given was to just follow your heart, and if you see a piece that catches your eye, no matter how unique and 'out there' it may be, then snap it up while you can, as unique pieces don't stay on the market for long. Be bold with your jewellery choices - branch out of your comfort zone and experiment with different styles or metals. After all, whether you are creating a personal collection or are becoming a dealer, unique pieces with have attention gravitating towards them from everyone as these pieces tend to have more character.
Paris Haute Couture week: what you didn’t know about...
6th July 2017
The highly anticipated four-day-long event has brought together the most well-known designers, fashion moguls and models to debut their latest collections in a series of shows where fashion has been elevated to an art form. So far the shows at Paris Haute Couture Week have not disappointed. Powerhouses like Dior, Hermes, and Chanel kicked off the summer event to the delight of celebrity guests such as Sophia Loren, Sophia Copolla and Cara Delevigne to name a few. Miu Miu's resort collection started proceedings with a bang, guests at Dior took their front row seats next to giraffes, monkeys, tigers and elephants, as Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s first female Creative Director, coordinated her very own wilderness, and in place of last season's gigantic rocket sat a statue of the Eiffel Tower, as Karl Lagerfeld paid homage to Paris' parks. Private charter specialist, 365 Aviation, has transported numerous celebrities and high profile clients to the fashion capital this week and reports it’s not unusual for a couture gown to cost more than the charter flight. 365 goes to extraordinary lengths to ensure its clients' high-value items arrive in as pristine a state as their clients. Cardboard wardrobes are filled with foam and mesh to protect dresses that run into hundreds of thousands of pounds and which frequently have to travel in the main cabin to ensure they are not damaged in the hold.

27th July 2016
The unique exhibition features garments spanning 90 years of The Queen’s life - from christening and Coronation gowns, to the wedding dress and a plethora of mesmerizing hats. A total of 150 outfits will be shown across the Palaces, and the content of each exhibition has been selected to have particular association with the location: At the Palace of Holyroodhouse the use of tartan in royal dress is explored, while at Windsor Castle magnificent evening gowns worn on official occasions will be contrasted with Princess Elizabeth’s fancy-dress costumes from wartime family pantomimes held at the Castle. The exhibition at the State Rooms explores ceremonial and military attire, dress for State occasions and overseas tours, outfits for family celebrations, and Her Majesty’s support of British design.

Couture AW16: Finding love in hopeless places
17th July 2016
It is not unusual to see an elaborate set for Chanel catwalk shows, and this season was no different. For AW16, Chanel’s couture seamstresses were included on the set, who Karl Lagerfeld then took his end of show bow arm-in-arm with, many still wearing their sewing kits. The couture itself, took place in an array of classic Chanel tweed, over black suede boots and gloves, creating a canvas on which the cropped wide-leg pantsuits and flatly squared shoulders took pride place. Viktor & Rolf repurposed garments and various textiles from past archives, finding new and inventive ways to painstakingly stitch together swathes of multi-coloured tulle with shirt fabrics and denim. Ultimately resulting in a wearable art collection, much to the designers’ technical skill credit. Elie Saab stormed the catwalk with a ‘Love in New York’ concept, showcasing intricate embroidery of lit skyscraper windows and the discernible Chrysler building, with velveteen birds and crystal heart motifs across full-length gowns.

Luxury fashion with a conscience
14th July 2015
We can say that luxury fashion is only becoming more luxurious when environmentally friendly and ethical processes are employed in each piece of clothing or accessory. The time it takes to the methods used is almost a work of art in itself. What is more, the art of preservation where ancient techniques are hailed and therefore preserved not only for their uniqueness but also for their incredible originality that cannot be replicated as easily. The importance of preserving sheer craftsmanship and valuing the ethical responsibilities of a brand is one that The Sybarite celebrates. Surprisingly, an increasing number of luxury fashion brands are basing their philosophies on the values of ethical, ecological and technological implementations. Take for example Maiyet, a brand featuring a poetic category selection such as clothing, shoes to jewelry and bags, but all with one factor in common – the employment of rare artisanal skills from unexpected places. But it isn’t just that, Maiyet (https://maiyet.com) also forges strong partnerships with artisans, craftsmen and entrepreneurs in developing economies to promote self-sufficiency and further trains them with their independent nonprofit organization, Nest.
