Featuring Diamonds Might Be The Most Robust Alternative Investment
14th January 2025
However, for those in the know, nothing can replace the world’s oldest; diamonds. A study from New York Life Investment Management LLC said that women are ahead of the game, with 27% of women allocating their bucks to “non-traditional investments,” whilst only 20% of men do the same. Experts suggest this gap is likely to grow in the favour of the ladies who appreciate the beauty of jewellery, watches and handbags, whilst they appreciate in value. The value of diamonds is wrapped up in its size, quality, and rarity. The UK head of the Natural Diamond Council, Lisa Levinson said one coloured diamond is found for every 10,000 mined, and are only accessible to those with big bucks to spend. The colour in these diamonds are a structural defect, she explained, and so finding the environments needed to create certain colours isn’t common. For example, green diamonds are created from nuclear radiation over thousands or millions of years, and cost around $1M per carat, and the yield of pink diamonds from the now-closed Argyle mine in Australia, could fit into a champagne glass.

Luxury Men’s Clothing – Curated Picks by The Luxury Gent
8th January 2025
Some habits I’ll defend with evangelical fervour, others I’m more than ready to retire. Loyalty, though, is never given lightly. It has to be earned—and earned well. Take my Timberlands. I’ve worn the same pair of boots on rotation for close to 27 years, replacing them every 18 to 24 months like clockwork. They’re hands-down the shoes I wear most, and I haven’t found anything that beats them for comfort, durability or design. That’s the kind of habit I’ll keep. But many of the others—born from a dislike of shopping and frustration with overpriced, underperforming clothes—are ready to be left behind. Which is why I went looking for the brands doing things differently. A new class of labels challenging the old guard with smarter fabrics, more thoughtful production, and a design ethos that actually fits the way we live now. Consider this a curated list of the future of luxury menswear: less tradition for tradition’s sake, more innovation where it counts. Let’s dive in.

The Relevancy of Haute Couture in 2017
30th January 2017
Unlike other Fashion Weeks held six months before the product they show is available online or in-store, Haute Couture is the only showcase in which clothes are created for the season in which they are shown. Yet, the production of each garment can easily cost five figures, and it's a well-known fact that couture is a loss-leader - the couture industry is simply not profitable. So why do we still look to these collections as the ultimate pinnacle of fashion? "Haute Couture is what gives our business its essential essence of luxury," Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH told The Telegraph. "Set against the money we lose has to be the value of the image couture gives us. Look at the attention the collections attract. It is where you get noticed. You have to be there. It's where we set our ideas in motion."

Vivienne Westwood calls on fashion industry to switch to...
25th January 2017
Renowned British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has long been an active and vocal campaigner for action against climate change, now powering most of her her fashion business with green energy. She is now campaigning for both the fashion industry and the public to switch from harmful and infinite fossil fuels to sustainable green methods, even naming her Autumn-Winter 17/18 London Fashion Week show 'Ecotricity’. Vivienne Westwood said: “We must all demand a fast transition to clean energy. We require a Green Economy for human life to remain sustainable and flourish. “It is so ridiculously easy to switch to green energy.” Currently, most of Westwood's UK-based premises are powered by green energy and green gas, aiming to be entirely supplied by Ecotricity by next year. Ecotricity founder, Dale Vince, said: “Switching to green energy is the biggest single thing – and the easiest thing – that any business or person can do to cut their emissions that cause air pollution and climate change.

The new influencers: How luxury brands are targeting...
19th January 2017
Gone are the days of becoming rich or famous through reality TV and leaked porn tapes – today’s influencers thankfully have some integrity. They are the social media stars, the taste-makers, the judge and the jury of what is hot and hip now. Brands now recognise the arrival of the “era of millennials,” who not only are about to become the largest spending generation in history but also confidently re-define the vision of luxury. With 47% of this group making their purchase decisions under the influence of social media, luxury brands have had no other choice but to rise to the challenge. Research from Digital Luxury Group shows 40% of Google results for branded and technical watch brand terms are from blogs and forums. Chiara Ferragani from The Blonde Salad, Kristina Bazan of Kayture, Aimee Song from Song of Style, Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller, and many more have already collaborated with luxury brands in impactful ways.

Kate Moss turns 43: a look back at her most iconic moments
16th January 2017
With over twenty years in the spotlight, we have Miss Moss to thank for the rise of skinny jeans and a fervour for leopard print. Today has yet to be declared a public national holiday so for the mean time, The Sybarite celebrates by re-visiting the model’s most stylish and iconic moments. 1990: Discovered by Corinne Day in the very early 90’s, Kate Moss was featured on the front cover of ‘The Face’ as a 15-year-old girl. Looking like a heart-wrenchingly cute adolescent with limbs too long to handle, Kate Moss’ career was launched then and there. "That's one of my favorite pictures.” Says Kate Moss, “[Photographer] Corinne [Day] really did try and change the way people saw fashion. She hated what was going on at the time: those kind of pictures of the high-roller kind of women, which she didn't find attractive at all.” 1992: Photographed for a Calvin Klein campaign with Mark Wahlberg, a fresh-faced 17 year-old Kate Moss oozes confidence in front of the camera.

Featuring Event of the week for Sybarites: Chanel couture S/S 2016
28th January 2016
For Karl Lagerfield’s latest showcase for Couture Fashion Week in Paris, the glitteratti were out in force to ogle at his latest haute couture fashion line. It wasn’t just the FROW that was suitably starry. Infact, Paris' Grand Palais was transformed into an elegant and eco-friendly setting, consisting of a wooden house surrounded by a minimalist garden of lotus-filled ponds and a spread of lush green grass, reflecting the graphic illustration of his eco-inspiration vision (even the designs used wood shavings within the fabric). Familiar faces such as supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid led the catwalk path, adorned in stunning designs, one off pieces and eye-catching looks. Cara Delevingne was spotted sitting front row with her dog Leo.

Love is key for Lanvin’s #SS15 campaign
25th January 2015
Featuring iconic model Kirsten Owen, Pat Cleveland and Violetta Sanchez alongside their youthful daughters, the images are haunting and dramatic, reflecting on fashion invading close relationships. Menswear wasn’t left out and in this case, the bond of brotherhood is explored with Callum and Haydn Rockall, alongside DJ duo Joshua Quinton and Andy Bradin. The French maison stays faithful to its beautiful heritage left by Jeanne Lanvin and we love how it resonates within the modern, innovation-obsessed fashion world.

Guy Bourdin At Somerset House
19th January 2015
Instantly recognisable and undoubtedly surreal, the 100-snap collection combines his early and later pieces of work, featuring unseen material, which spans over 30-years of his career. Renowned for provocative surrealism, the exhibition includes some of his most reputable works alongside a selection of paintings, working drawings, sketches and notebooks, which haven’t yet been seen in the UK. Black and white images have been thrown into the mix of predominantly vibrant photos. Other photographic materials include; Polaroid test shots, contact sheets and double-page spreads, which exemplify photography in a pre-digital time space. Curated by Alistair O’Neill with Shelly Verthime, the exhibition runs from 27 November 2014 – 15 March 2015 and is undoubtedly the most insightful display since the fashion photographer’s death in 1991.
