Cupra Ateca — The Attractive And Sporty SUV

20th August 2024

I have a Spanish mistress, and she captivates me. The trouble is I only get to see her a few times a year and for short meets. When I do, we have a fantastic time and make the most of every day, often spending hours in the country travelling through counties. The Spanish Siren that keeps pulling me back is the Cupra brand which I find utterly desirable.  The latest temptress I have been testing is the Cupra Ateca, a mid-sized SUV, the luxury, sporty version of the SEAT Ateca, which is proving popular.   The Cupra Ateca SUV first arrived in the country with one available version: four-wheel drive and a hefty 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine. Now, two other petrol engines can be chosen, and they have 148bhp and 187bhp. It entered a market competing against the Ford Puma ST and the VW T-Roc R, and now, it has rivals from Peugeot, with the 3008 and the Audi Q3.  The Cupra Ateca's entry-level 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol, called the 1.5 Eco TSI 150, in the middle is the 187bhp 2.0-litre engine 2.0 Eco TSI 190, and the all guns blazing is the 300 with 296bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque on tap. Select a mode called Cupra and activate the launch control function; the 300 can sprint to 60mph from rest in just 4.7 seconds, and what fun it is.

How Beaverbrook And Moke International Make The Perfect...

14th August 2024

The allure of Surrey’s rolling hills hits its peak during the summertime. Longer stretches of daylight and deliciously fresh air make a solid case for a weekend, or even midweek getaway. For Beaverbrook, the historical Surrey estate spanning 470 acres, this time of year is arguably its most beautiful. As one of the UK’s most treasured boutique hotels, guests are accustomed to world-class service within its storied walls. This can include anything from the estate’s iconic hot air balloon dining to an invigorating treatment at the Coach House Spa. For many, a visit to Beaverbrook is about having access to amenities they wouldn’t otherwise experience outside its illustrious gates. Chief among them - the chance to get behind the wheel of a MOKE. With roots dating back to the late 1950s, MOKE was originally conceptualised as a British army car. For certain design reasons this dream didn’t really take off, but the car would later be reborn as a lifestyle vehicle in 1964. Embodying the glamorous essence of a coastal lifestyle, MOKE was widely endorsed by Hollywood heavyweights including Brigitte Bardot and The Beach Boys. Its laidback ideology and nostalgic charm was seen as a counterculture to the fast-paced celebrity lifestyle of the time. By 2018, MOKE underwent another redesign, courtesy of British designer Michael Young. It is now designed and manufactured exclusively in the UK, becoming the first automotive brand from the 1960’s to go 100% electric.

Women Who Launch - Marie Soliman and Sarah Colbon of...

17th August 2022

The design industry is captivating to many primarily because it doesn't sit still and is constantly in a state of transformation. "Design is the reflection of the era we live in, and with more conscious choices and well-travelled individuals, we are seeing—and getting asked to design—more sustainable and meaningful luxurious spaces," shares Marie Soliman, Founder and Creative Director of Bergman Design House, the luxury design studio that lists BXR London and the Hilton Hotel Brussels as some of its clients. Soliman tells me that the pandemic has dramatically influenced this transformation with a significant focus on sustainability, vintage pieces, and an ethos of meaningful luxury. It was also in 2020 that the team saw their clients spending more time out at sea on their yachts in a bid to get more privacy and stay away from crowds—superyachts had turned into a home away from home, and clients were on the lookout to put their stamp on these floating mansions.
