The Most Exclusive Resort in Dominica
22nd June 2023
When you visit The Nature Island, if you want an experience that delivers exclusivity, sustainability and six-star comfort, there is no other resort to consider but Secret Bay. The area has been aptly named, situated on a total land area of 40 plus acres including hidden, verdant rainforest perched on a cliff top overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The main airport in Dominica is only 60 minutes away and yet wouldn't look out of place as a regional airport in the most remote parts of Scotland. Yes, Secret Bay is off the beaten track, but paradise is found on the path less trodden.
A Night Away in the Scottish Highlands with Caorunn Gin
20th June 2023
The romantic – if rugged – setting is entirely in tune with the character of the drink, which, as I discover during a tour and tasting session at the distillery, is unarguably Scottish. The raw spirit is infused with six traditional gin flavours and five Celtic botanicals – rowan berry, bog myrtle, dandelion, heather and caol blush apple (all of which grow in the immediate vicinity) – via the world’s only working Copper Berry Chamber. This impressively Victorian-looking piece of kit is actually a 1920’s perfume still from the US, where it may or may not have been involved in the production of illicit Prohibition liquor. It contains large trays, on which the dried botanicals are spread, and as the gin passes through as a vapour it is suffused with the plant essences.
The Ultimate Wedding Gift Guide
16th June 2023
Wedding gifts are a significant part of wedding culture, and in many cultures is how guests share their blessings and good wishes to the happy couple. Traditionally, wedding registries were set up for couples who would be moving into their first home together shortly after the nuptials, But now with some couples cohabiting long before they say ‘I do,’ we can no longer count on the newlyweds to tell us what they want. As a rule of thumb, even when a registry is not in place, guests are typically expected to bring a gift; often which at least covers the approximate ‘cost per head’ for the couple [unless the wedding invitation specifically requests gifts in another form like a charity donation]. The importance and expectations surrounding wedding gifts can vary across different cultures and social circles. Some cultures place a greater emphasis on elaborate or expensive gifts, while others prioritise the sentiment behind the gift rather than its value. Regardless of whether you’re known for being a great gift-giver or are usually the person to write their name on the card, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite wedding-appropriate gifts, no matter your budget.
Welcome to the Mövenpick Resort, Al Marjan Island
8th June 2023
There's more to the United Arab Emirates than the glamour and dazzle of Dubai. A mere 45-minute drive from Dubai's bustling metropolis, the lesser-known Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah offers a respite from the glitz, serving as a delightful antidote to the neon-lit skyline of its extravagant cousin. Framed by the imposing Yanis and Jais mountains and kissed by the cerulean waters of the Arabian Gulf, this destination is a refreshing blend of culture, nature, and luxury. Leading this revival is the new addition to the scene, the Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island. Luxuriating in the tranquil setting of Al Marjan Island, Mövenpick Resort distinguishes itself as a haven for those seeking a balance between serenity and indulgence. At the heart of the property are 418 elegantly appointed rooms, suites, and beachfront chalets, all boasting balconies with unobstructed vistas of the Arabian Gulf. The family-friendly resort doesn't just pay lip service to the term - its spacious rooms come furnished with sofa beds to provide a true home-from-home experience. And for a dash of the extravagant, the beachfront chalets - complete with private swimming pools and terraces - provide the perfect setting for an exclusive, intimate getaway.

Review of Globe Trotter - Luxury travel essentials
30th June 2022
What you have by your side and what you choose to trundle is vital for the image and if you want to give the right impression. ''Travelware-upmanship'' is a game all travellers play. Travellers are brand conscious. They are as loyal to their luggage brand as the car they choose to drive and airline they choose to fly by. It matters what wheels they choose to have under them. “My seat in Business Class on a plane to a very important meeting is waiting”, “I am on my way to an extended and very luxurious vacation that few people could ever afford” and “ I buy my carry on in Mayfair” are impressions we all like to create. It starts in the airport car park when we take longer than necessary unpacking so everyone can admire our super lightweight, bought from London’s Burlington Arcade Globe Trotter four-wheel spinner grey/caramel new check-in case which screams “ Just out!”
Women who launch – Sylvia Wong of The Roundtree
30th June 2022
—let alone for a first-time entrepreneur—and if you throw in the fact that this new business is in the hospitality industry, well, it almost sounds like an impossible feat. But none of those obstacles stopped Sylvia Wong, founder of The Roundtree, from following her dreams of opening the luxury boutique hotel. “When I set out on this journey, I had no idea that we would be dealing with a pandemic. The purchase took several months, and that was the easy part!” explains Wong. The East Hampton hotel is situated by the beach over two acres of sprawling land. Wong envisioned an elegant hideaway that kept the historic features of the property but with modernised interiors. The result is a home-away-from-home luxury escape with five cottages, ten additional rooms and suites, and a newly-renovated three-bedroom beach house set just a short walk from the water.
The Luxury Gent recommends: Sam Harris’ Making Sense podcast
29th June 2022
The consumption of media is changing around us at an unbelievable rate. Podcasting is a phenomenon, and Sam Harris is one of its juggernauts. The beauty of the format to its makers, is that they can't be de-platformed, they control their own production, and distribution is de-centralised, effectively granting them complete autonomy over their content. And with no scheduling windows, or network timeslots to fit into, they can spend hours giving complex subjects the time and air they deserve. As listeners, we've embraced the flexibility of the content; it can be consumed in pieces, or wholesale, in often otherwise "dead-time," commutes & gym sessions for example, as well as on the sofa.
Featuring Perfect your smile at Smile Architect dentists on 111...
28th June 2022
With so many stories of botched cosmetic procedures and dodgy dental work, it’s important that you know that you are getting the best treatment out there. For the past year I have been a patient at Smile Architect in Harley Street, a private practice owned and run by Dr Adam Slade. Adam is a very experienced dental surgeon and has extensive experience in Prosthodontics and implant placement. He was awarded Master of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) in 2004 from London University having studied at Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Dental Institute to add to his other dental qualifications. I first met Adam when I was working on a documentary series which saw patients who had medical treatment disasters corrected. Adam was the resident dental expert correcting their smiles. It was then that I watched some of his more invasive and technically skilled work first-hand. Our case studies would arrive with very complicated issues, many needing all their teeth removed.

Roberto Grilli: The mastermind lighting up Formula E
24th June 2022
Recently appointed to manage the Formula E - Diriyah ePrix in Saudi Arabia, Roberto tells The Sybarite how he got into the motorsports and lighting industry, the changes he has had to make during the recent pandemic, and what the appointment to the Formula E race means to him. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. As DZ Engineering’s General Manager, I am currently responsible for both commercial and business development in integrated solutions for race track circuits, sports venue lighting, museums and architectural lighting. Prior to this, I had pursued automation and software engineering with the vision that I, one day, will be building the first real Mecha, a Japanese giant anime robot. Shortly after joining this, I realised that I would not have been able to survive coding for that long - I would be, in fact, bored to death. When I had the opportunity to switch professions, I grabbed on to something more exciting and here I am now, with over 15 years of experience in across both motorsports and lighting industries
Featuring The Brando: a world apart
24th June 2022
Unbelievably less half the price of one South London garage which recently sold for £550,000. But economics aside, this was an investment that would give Brando peace and fulfillment in his later years and is now seen as the ultimate holiday destination for the world’s rich and famous. Tetiaroa is a stunning atoll (for those not au fait with tropical island terminology, an atoll is a ring shaped coral reef or series of islands) located 30 miles north of Tahiti in the South Pacific. Tetiaroa has always been seen as a mystical place, with stars guiding people there from Southeast Asia 4,000 years ago. It was also a favored retreat for the Tahitian royalty who would take part in archery tournaments as their wives were fanned under nearby coconut trees. And then came Brando. Having first visited Tetiaroa while filming Mutiny on the Bounty, the actor fell hard for its natural beauty, tranquility, cultural richness as well as for his Tahitian leading lady Tarita, with whom he later had children. It became his personal sanctuary and then his home when he bought Onetahi, one of the 12 smaller islands that make up Tetiaroa, and named it Brando.

Review of The Unbeatable Ritz Carlton Fari Islands
23rd June 2022
After a long flight and feeling the weight of it, especially after travelling with two small children, it was a relief to see the Ritz Carlton team waiting for us at the arrivals hall. We were warmly greeted by Lana, who led us to their luxurious air-conditioned speed boat. The process was pretty instant - in under 15 minutes we were on our way to the Fari Islands and it felt like we could finally relax.

The Doldergrand – the finest place to stay in Zurich
21st June 2022
Swerving up onto the hill where The Doldergrand is perched up on, it was the panoramic mountain views against the backdrop of the hotel that made it stand out for us. Art is a major feature throughout the hotel with original works from Takashi Muramaki and Salvador Dali as well as other prominent artists whose works feature in various places. With a history spanning since 1899, The Doldergrand has without a doubt become a prominent address not just for overnight guests but a true social hub where guests come together to wine and dine, to see and be seen, and to just enjoy the act of socialising in style. Though it may seem like an enormous hotel, which it is, given there are 175 rooms and suites on site, the service is impeccable as is the discretion. What drew us to the hotel and what made it even more pleasant for us especially as we were travelling with our children, was the convenience and location of The Doldergrand.

Review of Fairmont Royal York review
20th June 2020
Featuring an extraordinary façade, the property itself was once considered the tallest building not just in Toronto but throughout the country. It goes without saying that the Fairmont Royal York is one of city’s most prized landmarks and definitely one of the hotels to think about when considering an experiential stay in the capital of Ontario. There’s always something intriguing when a 90-year old building - and hotel for that matter – undergoes an extensive renovation. One becomes curious and imaginative, for example what style and theme do you go for when you’re faced with re-designing the interiors of a hotel with such significance? Will the spirit of this grand abode be taken over by something more modern? Will returning customers feel the same if not more inspired when witnessing and experiencing these new changes? We certainly hope so because as first-timers to the Fairmont Royal York, what we can say is that you truly feel the contrast between the old and the new. By old, we mean the sort of antiquated yet curious charm as you enter the revolving doors (you can tell they’re old as they take a bit of muscle to push through).
Featuring Meet Luxury Travel Expert Rebecca Masri
9th June 2020
The private luxury club allows its members to take advantage of an in-house team of travel experts and luxury advisers, and unique rates and benefits across their range of hotel partners. “The business launched and took off fairly quickly as there was plenty of opportunity in luxury travel following the 2008 crash,” says Masri. Little Emperors presents a two-fold offering: corporate rates that are often not available for self-employed individuals or those working in smaller companies, and leisure benefits such as priority hotel upgrades and last-minute bookings at top restaurants. Little Emperors’ partner hotels include everything from 5-star luxury properties to quirky boutique properties. Nobu Hotel Barcelona, The EDITION Miami, and The Setai Tel Aviv are just some of the places members can choose from.
Featuring Meet The Luxury Hospitality Expert: Zoran Pejovic
2nd June 2020
“[My childhood] was defined by nearly a decade of wars in former Yugoslavia” he shares. “I had attempted to leave Montenegro even before I was 18, but only really managed after turning 18. Still, in so many ways, it was fun, and I carry a lot of nice memories from that time. Most importantly, I carry with me a certain level of preparedness for crisis, and I am very much ok with uncertainty and not afraid of loss. I attribute a lot of that to those early years in Montenegro.” Pejovic’s drive and ambition is undeniable, and he is now owner and founder of Paradox Hospitality, the bespoke boutique hotel management company that is behind Maslina Resort, the new five-star Relais & Chateaux property opening this summer in Croatia, where Pejovic is also the GM.
Featuring Capri – The Sybarite’s guide to the Emerald Isle
28th June 2018
Glittering azure waves lap up to the harbour, filled with adorable Italian boats and vintage Riva’s, to the multi-coloured houses of the seaside town. As loud and busy as it is due to day-tripper tourists, honeymooning couples and the very well-travelled, nothing can quite compare to the moment you step off the hydro-foil from Naples to the shores of this fantastic emerald isle. If you’re staying at one of the luxurious five-star hotels on the island, which are highly recommended, you will be greeted by a representative, recognisable by the hotel name printed on their captain’s cap. After taking care of your luggage, they will show you to a shuttle or taxi, (not just any taxi, a vintage open-top limousine nonetheless) to take you to the Island’s main square, the Piazzetta Umberto. From there, you’re left to explore the tiny side streets filled with designer boutiques and al fresco restaurants in the sunshine, walking the pavements lined with vintage tiles.

4th June 2018
The African safari, the original daddy of all wild adventures. Scenes of the open savannah dotted with herds of grazing wildebeest, the air filled with the sounds of wildlife; zebras braying, crickets chirping, and the distant trumpeting from a herd of elephants. The heat ripples the horizon as you scan the plains in search of ‘Africa’s big five’. Sounds like the staple safari dream. The Belmond have created an itinerary that will take your expectations of a safari experience to the next level by uncovering the treasures of Botswana and it’s Okavango Delta on horseback. This exclusive Belmond itinerary, hosted by world-class horse rider and fashion icon Jodie Kidd, will get you closer to nature than ever before.
Featuring 5 Reasons Why You Need to Live on the French Riviera
20th June 2017
For those not born and bred here, it all started at the end of the 18th Century, with Brits escaping the winter by sojourning on the southeastern Mediterranean coastline and hinterland. Soon the railway arrived and others followed suit. The ‘French Riviera’ was born and became the haunt of aristocrats, writers, artists, and anyone who wanted to see and be seen.

Featuring How to give Glastonbury a dusting of luxury this year
26th June 2015
As one of summer's biggest Greenfield music and performing arts festivals, style is all the rage, even more so when it comes to finding accommodation that is just as tasteful. Much like the dazzling Coachella Festival in the Colorado Dessert, where they too offer exclusive campsites (and services) in the form of Safari Tents, it’s no surprise that Glastonbury has further amplified its variety of on-site accommodation with attractive extras to go along with it. Whether you’re looking to revel in the festivities or have your family in tow or maybe you prefer to indulge in the festival in style - well, this huge tented city is filled with options for the festivalgoer. Our mission is to discover how to appreciate Glastonbury in ultra comfort and style – take for example The Popup Hotel which offers a reserved site replete with security, private parking, spa, exquisite food bars, concierge service and a host of room types depending on the person’s preferences, and what’s more, the site is located a mere few minutes walk from Gate D.
