A Sustainable Christmas Dinner

2-1655503855.JPG

Sustainability and reducing food waste are two issues that the food and restaurant industry have been tackling over recent years. These problems see a significant increase over the holidays with studies showing that UK residents are predicted to spend over £19 billion on food and drinks over the festive months.

For many, Christmas dinner is synonymous with turkey. The Sybarite was invited by luxury turkey brand KellyBronze to attend a masterclass conducted by their Managing Director Paul Kelly. Where to Spend Thanksgiving in London

15th November 2018

Thanksgiving is a tradition that began as a harvest festival in the 1600s. Though not a national holiday in the UK, it isn’t uncommon to find Londoners gathering around a table come late November to give thanks, be merry, and of course, enjoy a sumptuous spread of hearty autumnal dishes. Whether you’re an American transplant searching for a taste of home, or simply have a craving for a perfectly-bronzed turkey with all the trimmings, we’ve rounded up the top restaurants in London to get into the Thanksgiving spirit.

Featuring Onima – five levels of decadence in the heart of Mayfair

25th October 2018

Onima is a unique hybrid of bar, restaurant, private dining lounge and rooftop terrace, and is the brainchild of founder Alexandros Andrianopoulos, who set out to capture the atmosphere and reputation of Mykonos, a Greek island which has fast become one of the world's most sought-after destinations. Andrianopoulos has managed legends such as Nammos and Interni, building success internationally for NYC’s Bathtub Gin and Bagatelle in Dubai, and his newest venture, Onima, is set to be the ultimate luxury lifestyle experience to captivate Londoners. Onima's five-floor residence was once the headquarters of Cartier's watchmaking empire, and has been skilfully re-imagined by leading Greek interior designers Archset to become a sensory experience from start to finish. The first level of the Onima experience, the ground floor restaurant, is dominated by a huge bar covered in rich bronze details, and the whole room oozes style and sophistication, flooded with natural light.

Review of Galvin at The Athenaeum - A Modern Take on Beloved...

3rd July 2018

Both brothers are Michelin-star recipients in their own right, and have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Antony Worrall Thompson, Sir Terence Conran and Nico Ladenis. The restaurant itself is located off the new-look double-height lobby of the Athenaeum hotel, which is far from a traditional hotel lobby and provides guests with more of a retro lounge feel. Upon arrival, we walked through from the bar and were guided to our white marble table – a particularly millennial touch. Seating 94 guests, it’s a relaxed, comfortable space with an elaborate central chandelier, dark wood tables and a neat display of Galvin cookbooks. After making ourselves comfortable and of course instagramming the beautiful bouquet arrangements in the centre of the restaurant, we were given a welcome glass of champagne to peruse the extensive menu with. After much deliberation, I settled on the Dedham vale beef steak tartare to start, which came beautifully seasoned with a raw yolk as the cherry on top, while my companion had the crab and lobster linguini as a small portion which was mouthwateringly delicious and served with the perfect amount of chilli in each mouthful.

Featuring Capri – The Sybarite’s guide to the Emerald Isle

28th June 2018

Glittering azure waves lap up to the harbour, filled with adorable Italian boats and vintage Riva’s, to the multi-coloured houses of the seaside town. As loud and busy as it is due to day-tripper tourists, honeymooning couples and the very well-travelled, nothing can quite compare to the moment you step off the hydro-foil from Naples to the shores of this fantastic emerald isle. If you’re staying at one of the luxurious five-star hotels on the island, which are highly recommended, you will be greeted by a representative, recognisable by the hotel name printed on their captain’s cap. After taking care of your luggage, they will show you to a shuttle or taxi, (not just any taxi, a vintage open-top limousine nonetheless) to take you to the Island’s main square, the Piazzetta Umberto. From there, you’re left to explore the tiny side streets filled with designer boutiques and al fresco restaurants in the sunshine, walking the pavements lined with vintage tiles.
