Bringing Back Boujis: Get Ready for B London

25th January 2023

They’ve hosted rockstars and royalty during their wildest nights out. Now, the team behind Mahiki, Raffles Chelsea, and the once happening Boujis, brings B London to the fold, with a view to capturing the best of old and new. For those unfamiliar with Boujis, the significance of B London’s upcoming launch - geared for March of this year - is rooted heavily in the once popular club which closed in 2016. During its epic run, made memorable by the drove of celebrities passing in and out of its doors, Boujis made headlines for high class drama perpetrated by none other than its clientele. This included Princes William and Harry, commonly caught by paparazzi stumbling from the club in the early hours of the morning. Speaking to veteran nightclub owner and B London partner, Carlo Carello, it’d be remiss of The Sybarite not to enquire about his knowledge of the royals, who are, as expected at this time, a little on the contentious side of public opinion. “To be honest, I’ll be brutal,” he said. “I’d love to stay away from Harry and William right now. There’s too much out there.”

The Relevancy of Haute Couture in 2017

30th January 2017

Unlike other Fashion Weeks held six months before the product they show is available online or in-store, Haute Couture is the only showcase in which clothes are created for the season in which they are shown. Yet, the production of each garment can easily cost five figures, and it's a well-known fact that couture is a loss-leader - the couture industry is simply not profitable. So why do we still look to these collections as the ultimate pinnacle of fashion? "Haute Couture is what gives our business its essential essence of luxury," Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH told The Telegraph. "Set against the money we lose has to be the value of the image couture gives us. Look at the attention the collections attract. It is where you get noticed. You have to be there. It's where we set our ideas in motion."

Featuring Luxury meets history in the heart of Venice

14th January 2016

From cabarets to banquets, masked balls to classical concerts, the city comes to life in a celebration of Italian culture. The global appeal of Venice continues to grow but it still remains one of the most unspoilt cities in Europe, with its beautiful piazzas and winding canals. And now there is a new reason to visit the city, and maybe never leave again, after paying a visit to the new luxury apartments recently developed and now on the market. The importance of preserving the city’s oldest buildings has been honoured in the award winning development of Palazzo Molin, a 15th Century palace, into eighteen individually designed apartments. Classic Venetian architecture has been combined with contemporary design and facilities to create a modern haven in a traditional space. The facade of the palace has not been altered, it still showcases the Gothic Fiorito style which is widely celebrated for its artistic importance.

Love is key for Lanvin’s #SS15 campaign

25th January 2015

Featuring iconic model Kirsten Owen, Pat Cleveland and Violetta Sanchez alongside their youthful daughters, the images are haunting and dramatic, reflecting on fashion invading close relationships. Menswear wasn’t left out and in this case, the bond of brotherhood is explored with Callum and Haydn Rockall, alongside DJ duo Joshua Quinton and Andy Bradin. The French maison stays faithful to its beautiful heritage left by Jeanne Lanvin and we love how it resonates within the modern, innovation-obsessed fashion world.

Featuring Highlights of the London Art Fair 2015

24th January 2015

Situated at the Business Design Centre in Islington, the UK’s premier fair for modern and contemporary British art housed 128 exhibitors from across the world, and played host to an exciting programme of exhibitions, films, talks and performances. As well as the inaugural Art Projects Artist Award, highlights this year included The Art Projects Film Programme, which took place in a purpose-built screening room curated by art journalist Pryle Behrman. The Art Projects also showcased a refreshing selection of contemporary and up-and-coming artists and installations. This year the fair provided a space entirely dedicated to photography. For their award-winning annual ‘Masters of Photography’ project, luxury spirit The Macallan partnered with famed photographer Mario Testino. There was even a 20-minute whisky tasting master class for visitors to enjoy. Other special events included a novel reading from Maeve Rendle exploring the curious relationship between freedom of thought and literal inspiration, and a Master Class in the Art of Interiors with Jade Thomson, Feature Editor at LuxDeco.

Guy Bourdin At Somerset House

19th January 2015

Instantly recognisable and undoubtedly surreal, the 100-snap collection combines his early and later pieces of work, featuring unseen material, which spans over 30-years of his career. Renowned for provocative surrealism, the exhibition includes some of his most reputable works alongside a selection of paintings, working drawings, sketches and notebooks, which haven’t yet been seen in the UK. Black and white images have been thrown into the mix of predominantly vibrant photos. Other photographic materials include; Polaroid test shots, contact sheets and double-page spreads, which exemplify photography in a pre-digital time space. Curated by Alistair O’Neill with Shelly Verthime, the exhibition runs from 27 November 2014 – 15 March 2015 and is undoubtedly the most insightful display since the fashion photographer’s death in 1991.
